She was born and raised in Ellwood City, PA and was the only child to Harry and (Dorothy) Jeanne Hess. She attended Muskingum College in Cambridge, OH and majored in Home Economics. While at Muskingum, she met her husband Charles R. Wallace III (preceded in death December 26th, 2023) and married in the Brown Chapel on campus in 1966. They were married for 57 wonderful years. After graduation, they moved to Washington Court House where they were teachers, coaches and had 3 daughters: Paige (Terry) Young, Jackie (Mike) VanderWoude and Tara (Mark) Robinson. In 1973, they moved to Chillicothe, OH. They were devoted teachers of Chillicothe High School until retirement.
Kay was lovingly called Mamoo by her four grandchildren, Regan (Sam) Morley, Jacob Robinson, Brody and Mya VanderWoude, and Great-Grandson, Calum Morley. Kay formed life-long friendship bonds with several teachers, whom she lovingly called Frienzies. Her passion for quilting produced the most beautiful, colorful quilts for many to enjoy, as well as a deep sisterhood with fellow quilters. She had an open invitation for all to join us for holiday meals. She utilized her massive collection of Fiestaware to make these meals memorable. Kay also enjoyed the artist Jim Shore, and she proudly displayed his figurines throughout her home.
She and Chuck were faithful Christians and members of Trinity United Methodist Church for 48 years. Kay dedicated her time and talents to many organizations in Chillicothe. But more importantly, she gave her time to anybody who needed her. Kay and Chuck spent endless hours cheering in the bleachers during swim meets, wrestling matches, basketball, volleyball, baseball and softball games. She was our biggest cheerleader, and her love and support was felt by so many. She was more than just a mother, she was our greatest example of how to use strength, compassion and unwavering love to shape us into the women we are today. She was the heart and soul of our family, and she will be dearly missed.
The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff of Carlyle House Assisted Living Facility for their care and compassion over the past 3-1/2 years, as well as Hospice of Dayton for their support and care in Kay's final weeks. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for all of your time, energy, and effort that you devoted to making sure that our mom was comfortable and cared for.
In lieu of flowers it would bring great joy to our mom if you would make a donation to your favorite charity. An open house Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, Chillicothe, OH on September 21, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.
