

PIER, Kathleen Kuenle “Kitty”, 67, of Bellbrook, passed away on Saturday at Hospice of Dayton. Kitty was born in Dayton on Nov. 17, 1946. She was preceded in death by her son, Fred William “Freddie” Pier, Jr., and her parents, James and Rose Kuenle. Kitty is survived by her beloved husband of 43 years, Fred “Fritz”; devoted children, Andrew “Drew” and Abigail “Abby”, both of Beavercreek; brother, James (Jean) Kuenle of Beavercreek and sister, Carol (Ed) Sefcik of Brunswick, OH; numerous nieces and nephews. She was a graduate of Julianne High School and St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. Kitty retired from Children’s Medical Center in 2011 and was the former owner of the Koenig Art Emporium. She championed the cause of empowering the developmentally disabled and was the founder of ADD (Advancing Developmental Disabled) and CHEERS (Community Helping Each and Everyone Reach Success). Kitty was named one of the Dayton Daily News Top Ten Women in 1984. She was an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Centerville, where she attended bible study and served as a money counter. The family would like to thank dear friends and sisters-in-law who supported Fritz and Kitty throughout her illness. Friends may call at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME – BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd., on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 5 pm until 8 pm. A brief prayer service will take place at 9:45 am on Thursday, Dec. 19 at the funeral home, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 6245 Wilmington Pk., Centerville. Interment will follow mass at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions in Kitty’s memory be made to CHEERS, 2149 Firebird Dr., Bellbrook, OH 45305, or to Hospice of Dayton.
