Lynne Patricia Dotsey, 65, passed away May 20, 2023. She is preceded in death by her loving and beloved parents Michael J. and Elizabeth M. (Rooney) Dotsey, brothers William J. and James R., sisters-in-law Maureen A. and Margaret A., and nephew Matthew J. Dotsey.
Lynne was the loving and cherished sister of Elizabeth Ann Bradley (Joseph), Michael (Ann), Mary (William Raddi), Kathleen Maul (Arthur), Joan Laughinghouse (Stephen); and devoted aunt of Meghan (John), Dana (Richard), Jennifer, Michael (Heather), Daniel (Susan), Rebekah (Gary), Christian (Carlene), Lauren (Reade), Kristin (Lance), Paul, and Katherine. Lynne was thrilled to be the great-aunt of fifteen great-nieces and great-nephews.
Lynne’s home town was Bala Cynwyd, PA, where she lived first with her parents, and then with her Bala brothers and their families. In more recent years she lived with her sister, Kathy, and brother-in-law, Art, in Ohio.
Lynne was a proud 1976 graduate of Lower Merion High School in Lower Merion, PA. Through her training at school and the dedication of her parents, she secured a post at the Bala Cynwyd Library and during her nearly 40-year career there, she worked in the children’s section shelving books and helping with the Story Hour. Her bubbly personality could be her foil as it ran counter to every library’s golden rule of ‘Silence’. The height of fun for Lynne was talking, laughing, and lollygagging with all her co-workers. Her enticement to keep the golden rule was a reward of pizza and a coke.
Lynne’s love for people was her nature and making them laugh at her jokes was both her goal and reward. She carried this spirit with her to her most recent residencies at Graceworks Enhanced Living in Kettering and then Otterbein SeniorLife of Springboro, both in Ohio.
Lynne was an avid sports fan of both the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. But her own favorite sport was swimming. Growing up, Lynne loved her summers with her family where she would spend countless hours at the beach in the chill waters of Ocean City, NJ, swimming and riding the waves until her lips were blue. And in later years, a swimming pool was not the same but just as good.
Lynne had many interests, but music was essential. She loved music and dancing, outdoor concerts and dinner theaters, family gatherings and parties. While her favorite era was ‘80s, her selection of artists was broad, ranging from Michael Jackson to Elvis, from The Beach Boys to Brooks and Dunn. In church, her hearty Alleluias and Amens would ring out, and for good reason she favored How great thou Art. Her dearly loved music therapist of recent years can attest to Lynne’s joy in belting out a fun tune during their sessions.
After her parents passed, for twenty years Lynne enjoyed traveling summers to visit her far-flung siblings and then returning in September to her Bala families, and her friends at the library.
Lynne was an enthusiastic shopping partner especially if it included a stop for a coke or Frappuccino. Her pastimes also included playing games and music on her Kindle Fire, word searches and jumbles, journaling, and she had a very creative eye for coloring.
"Lynne, with your beautiful spirit and infectious smile, you will be missed."
Relatives and friends are invited on Wednesday July 12th, Visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 AM with Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at St Matthias Church 128 Bryn Mawr Ave., Bala Cynwyd, PA, followed by interment at SS.
