Marijane S. Botsford

She was born August 26, 1923 to Anthony M. and Gladys (Crouse) Carr, in Barberton, Ohio. Marijane graduated from Wilbur Wright High School in 1941 and after 2 years at Ashland University received a B.S. in Speech and English from Ohio State University in 1945.

She married her high school sweetheart, Daniel G. Stanley, in 1946 and celebrated 50 years of marriage before his death. She then married Richard Botsford in 1998 and enjoyed 17 more years of marriage. She is survived by her two daughters, Karlyn D. Stanley (William Porter) of Arlington, VA, and Nina S. Marshall (Mike) of Indianapolis, two grandchildren, Corin Marshall Wojtowicz and Tess Marshall and one great-grandson, Henry Wojtowicz.

Marijane was a Pied Piper of sorts. Wherever she was and whatever she was doing everyone wanted to be a part. She loved being a leader whether teaching her high school English classes, serving in many clubs and organizations or in her lifelong church, Hillcrest Brethren, where she had many roles from Sunday school teacher to church moderator. She was especially proud of her time as a trustee at Ashland University and two terms as president of the Dayton College Women’s Club of which she was a member for over 65 years. She also loved supporting her favorite political candidates and working at the voting polls. Her radiant and ready smile will be remembered by all who knew her.

The funeral service, handled by Tobias Funeral Home, will be held Friday, February 24 at 2:30 in the chapel at David’s Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Rd., Dayton, with Rev. Ken Clarkston officiating. Memorial contributions can be made to Camp Jabez c/o the Gospel Mission, Dayton, OH.
