

Marjorie Ann Garwood went home to be with the Lord Jesus on Easter Sunday, April 1st, 2018.
She was born November 2nd, 1928 in Dayton, Ohio to Clarence and Dorothy Penney.
Marjorie graduated from Wilbur Wright High School. After graduation, she worked at NCR and then met the love of her life, Donald William Garwood on a blind date. They were married on June 10th, 1951 at Corinth Boulevard Presbyterian Church. Marjorie continued working for NCR while Don pursued his education at Ohio State University and the University of Dayton. Marjorie also worked as secretary for Central Presbyterian Church.
Marjorie and Don started their family in a newly built home on Wehrly Avenue in Kettering, Ohio. They raised their six children and remained there for the rest of their lives.
Marjorie was a charter member, Sunday School Teacher, and Christian Education Director at Corinth Boulevard Presbyterian Church. She adored children and spent over 20 years ministering to them.
Marjorie became a grandparent in 1981 and simply adored her grand and great-grandchildren. Marjorie said “Besides marrying Don, becoming a Mema was the best thing that ever happened to me.” She gave each one of them a special, ‘Mema-chosen’, nickname. These affectionate names were: Number One Muffin, Pumpkin Muffin, Spice Muffin, Minute Muffin, Apple Fritter, Sweet Potato Cakes, Jack-Straw, Bit-O-Honey, Hugs, Graham Cracker, Peekaboo Boy, Tinkerbelle, Little Lamb, Fairy Princess, Peter Pan, Loverly, Sleeping Beauty, Precious, Bright Eyes, Mr. President, Sweet Pea, Peaches, Chipper, Pappy’s Pal, and Sunshine. Her love language was giving gifts and she especially enjoyed showering her family and friends at Christmas time. The love of Jesus was evident in Marjorie’s heart and she expressed His unconditional love to everyone around her.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Penney, husband of 64 years Donald William Garwood, her brother David Penny, her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary Lou and Bill Hussey, her son-in-law Kelvin Reed, and her great grand-daughter Hafiza Bajwa Thomas.
She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law: Ralph and Gerri Cessna; sister-in-law, Alice Penney; six children and spouses: Mark and Tammie Garwood, Richard and Julia Fields of Franklin, OH, Sharon Garwood-Reed, Mark and Jennifer Burkey of Piney Flats, TN, David and Dana Garwood, and Gary Garwood; 10 Grandchildren and spouses: Jessica Garwood, Marcus and Maariya Thomas of Jacksonville, FL, Jonathan and Bonni Burkey of Chapel Hill, TN, Clifford and Leah Lauchlan of Lebanon, OH, Clayton and Amber Dowell of Bristol, TN, Melissa Garwood, Justin and Emily Brandt of Wake Forrest, NC, Alex and Diana Kinnaird, Andrew Garwood, Graham Garwood; 15 great-grandchildren: Dolly Ruth, Georgia Lyn, Jonathan Charles Jr., Benjamin Mark, and Charlotte Olivia Burkey; Ian Marshall, Aria Grace, Eli Gunner, and Lydia Rae Lauchlan; Elliana Joule and Gage Harrison Dowell; Jaden Michael and Makayla Ann Kinnaird; Addy Joy Brandt; and Nusayba Bajwa Thomas.
The family will receive friends at 11:30 am on Thursday, April 12th 2018 at Centerville Community Church in Centerville, OH. A celebration of life service presided over by Kedrick Hirschy will begin at 12:00 noon. Marjorie will be interned at David’s Cemetery in Kettering, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Centerville Community Church, 10688 Lebanon Pike, Centerville, OH 45458.
