

Mary Nell Green Begley of West Carrollton, Ohio, formally of Madisonville, Tennessee, was born on September 11, 1929, in Madisonville, Tennessee. She went to be with Jesus on Monday afternoon December 22, 2025, after falling ill and having several months of in-home care from her loving family and friends. She was the daughter of the late John Sylvester Green and Inis Moser Green. Sadly after 69 happy years of marriage, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband, the late Oscar Douglas Begley. Mary was also preceded in death by her two brothers Arvil Lee Green, and Vestle Woodrow Green along with three sisters, Abbie Thelma Rowe, Susie Naomi Simmons and Ina Belle Carroll.
Mary still has two surviving sisters-in-law, Sara Francis Morris and Loretta Begley. Mary was the proud mother of four surviving children, Charlene Bollinger of Dayton, Ohio, Deborah Sanders and son-in-law Ricky Sanders of Pickins, South Carolina, Sabrina Wilds and son-in-law Michael Wilds of Miamisburg, Ohio and Douglas Begley and daughter-in-law Debbie Gladish Begley of Hillsboro, Ohio. Mary was especially fond of her 11 grandchildren, Cheri Silvas, Kristie Jackson, Jeremy Arment, Mindee McLain, Jamie Arment, Cassandra Chandler, Joshua Wilds, Samantha Brigner, Isaiah Wilds, Michele Curran, and Jessica Begley. She was very blessed to have 15 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren, along with many nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was a student in the Monroe County Tennessee school system and after school as a young adult, moved to Dayton, Ohio. On a blind date she met and later married the love of her life Oscar Douglas Begley. They stayed in Dayton, Ohio to work and raise a family. Mary had many various jobs, and she retired from Rikes/Macys department store after 25 years of service but her life as a homemaker and mother was her favorite job. She always enjoyed baking, gardening, quilting and needle work along with time spent reading a good book.
Mary and Oscar traveled to every state in the US. and eventually retired to a farm in Tennessee. Oscar and she enjoyed wintering in Florida for 30 years. Mary was a very faithful Christian and loved being active in and attending Church. Serving God and having a life lived for Christ was always first in her heart and mind. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed. The family would like to say a heartfelt Thank You to our parents, two caregiving angels Tammy and Holly.
Funeral Services for Mary will be held at Noon on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Tobias Funeral Home-Belmont Chapel, 648 Watervliet Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 10:30 AM until the time of the Noon Funeral Service. Burial at Dayton National Cemetery on Friday 01/09/2026.
