Mary Eloise (Weezy) Cunningham died peacefully on February 16, 2026, at Hospice of Dayton. A resident of Beavercreek, Ohio, Mary was born on September 10, 1942, to Earl and Helen Smart and was blessed with two sisters, Phyllis (Kenny Mays) and Charlene (Ronnie Brown). Mary had three sons, Barry MacFarland (Amy), Brad MacFarland, and Bart MacFarland (Christy), and later married Thomas Kadel, and together they had a fourth, Clint Kadel (Lissa). After Tom’s passing in 2002, Mary remarried John (Jack) Cunningham and gained two more sons: Don Cunningham (Gisela) and Chaunce Cunningham.
At an early age Mary learned what it meant to be an altruistic caregiver and provider, taking pride in helping others without expectation of reward or recognition. Mary worked at General Motors on the factory line before finishing up her career in the GM blood bank. She enjoyed time on the water at Lake Cumberland, weekend trips to Indian Lake, and vacationing in Florida. Mary never missed the opportunity to attend a school or sporting event, from her children all the way down to her great-grandchildren. She was a woman of faith, starting early as a child at Aley Church, and later becoming a member of Patterson Park Church. Mary loved spending as much time as possible with family/friends, boating, tending her beautiful gardens, and any chance to be outside enjoying the sun.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents, sister Charlene, daughter-in-law Kellie MacFarland, husband Thomas Kadel, her beloved son Brad, and husband John (Jack) Cunningham.
Mary is survived by her grandchildren: Michelle Padilla (Kevin), Brittany MacFarland (Kenny), Brandon MacFarland (Erika), Brenna MacFarland, Rocky Mesarosh, Brody MacFarland, Clayton Kadel (Addison), Cade Kadel (Grace), Nick MacFarland, along with 12 great-grandchildren: Kelby, Bailie, Brystol, Kruiz, Gracie, Jack, Brooks, Wesley, Briggs, Levi, Lakelynn, and Aubree.
Visitation will take place at Patterson Park Church on March 5, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Mary request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice of Dayton.
