

MURPHY, Mildred “Millie” Marie, 89, of Kettering OH passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2014. She was born on Sept., 30, 1924 in Youngstown, OH, the daughter of the late Peter Divjak and Katherine “Katie” Divjak. Millie was the youngest of four children. She grew up working on a farm and loved going to school. Millie moved to Barnesville, OH when she was a teenager and graduated from Barnesville High in 1943. After devotedly writing her high school sweetheart consistently during his service in WWII, she married James Jerry “J.J.” Murphy on Aug., 23 1947 and then eventually moved to Kettering, OH where they lived together for more than 66 years. She dedicated her life to taking care of her family, raising her two children, Patrick and Jennifer, and spending time with friends. On days when she wasn’t helping J.J. with his printing business or camping with her family, Millie could often be found cooking, writing letters and tending to those who were lonely or in need. Throughout her life she was an active in the women’s auxiliary of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the VFW. She also was a member of the Dayton Yugoslav Club and associate member of the Polish Club – Millie loved to dance to Frank Yankovic songs at polka festivals that were held throughout the region. Millie is survived by her loving husband J.J. Murphy, daughter Jennifer Murphy, son Patrick Murphy and his wife Betty, in addition to her three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. Her brothers Dan, Mike and Nick have all preceded her in death. Friends may call from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Tobias Far Hills Chapel, 5471 Far Hills Avenue, Dayton, Ohio 45429. A service and internment will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at David’s Cemetery, 4600 Mad River Road, Kettering, Ohio 45429.
