

Philip Joseph Lafferty, age 75, peacefully passed away on Thursday, April 2nd, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital following a short illness. Phil was born on June 21st, 1950, in Dayton, Ohio, the third of four children of Herman Joseph Lafferty and Mary Louise (Reitz) Lafferty.
Phil graduated from Chaminade High School in 1968, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting from Wright State University. He worked for many years as an accountant for a trucking company in Virginia.
Returning to Dayton, Phil took up the carpenter’s trade and worked as an independent contractor doing finishing work on many homes and businesses.
A fan of the Olympics, Phil enjoyed following the games on television. In addition, he enjoyed traveling to Cleves, Ohio, every August with his buddies for the annual Gravelrama four-wheeler races.
He is survived by brothers, Terence (Patricia) Lafferty and Patrick, and a sister, Ann (Mike) May. Phil is preceded in death by parents Herman and Mary Lafferty. He leaves behind nieces and nephews, Elizabeth Lafferty, Amy (Michael) Blucker, Amanda (Michael) Rieman, Justin May, Joshua (Emma) May, and great nieces and nephews, Ethan, Wyatt, Mikayla Blucker, Cooper, Lila, Cora Rieman, Scarlett and Nova May. He also leaves behind many cousins, wonderful friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Tobias Funeral Home on Far Hills Ave, Centerville Ohio, on May 15th, 2026 from 4:00-6:00 pm, followed by a brief service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in to the Dayton Metro Library Foundation or ThinkTV (PBS).
A private interment will be held at a later date at St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Tipp City.
