Ralph Edward Nieter was born and raised in North Dayton and passed away at Christ Hospital of Cincinnati on Sunday Oct 31, 2021. After completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, Ralph briefly worked for DPL before beginning a career with the Department of Defense lasting over three decades.
While working towards that degree, Ralph meet Dorothy Mae Chandler a nursing student at Berea College hailing from West Virginia. After several years of courtship, at times separated by long distance supported thru the letter writing of the great romances, Ralph and Dorothy married on June 26, 1965. After a few years of the newly wed life style, they settled in Beavercreek, OH with the birth of their first son with Ralph beginning his work at WPAFB while Dorothy tended the home front.
The consummate provider for his family, Ralph also imparted his love of the outdoors to his children thru his enjoyment of golf, camping, and hunting. Initially working in a traditional partnership with Dorothy to raise their sons into fine adults, he was very supportive of Dorothy’s return to nursing to help pay for the education of their children. Finally, able to take early retirement in 1996, Ralph and Dorothy were able to enjoy years of travel including the purchase of a vacation home in Tennessee, and spending time with their grandchildren.
Ultimately, Ralph will be defined by his deep love for his wife Dorothy who passed this past February. His children take comfort that he has joined her on their next journey.
Ralph is survived by his three sons, Chad Warren, Chet Patrick, and Chris Edward. Daughter in-laws Michele L (Chad) and Lori R (Chet), two grandchildren Cole (Chad) and Nora (Chet), and his sister Nancy Kerschner and husband Don. Special mention to niece Lisa Yahya for supporting Ralph and Dorothy in their last year, dear friends Grace Ramos and her entire family, Ray & Rebecca Trimmer, and Tim & Sue Towner.
Visitation will be held at 10:00 am with service to follow at 11:00 am Thursday November 4, 2021 at the Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton Xenia Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45432. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
