Our dear father, Richard M. Trujillo, passed away peacefully at home on February 21, 2026, at the age of 89. He was a resident of Beavercreek, Ohio, where he lived with his daughter Elizabeth and son-in-law Brian Anderson. Richard is survived by his children, Michael Trujillo; Elizabeth (Brian) Anderson; Laura (Brian) Jackson; and David (Jennifer) Trujillo; and by his grandchildren, Tanner, Emily, Eric, Claire, Luke, Sophia, and Ellie. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Margaret Trujillo; his parents, Meliton and Ramoncita (Marquez) Trujillo; and his brothers, Leo and Mel Trujillo.
Richard, whom family and friends lovingly called “RT,” was born on March 10, 1936, in Alamosa, Colorado. He grew up in Capulin, Colorado, and often shared fond memories from those years. Richard graduated from Capulin High School in 1955 and attended Regis College in Denver for two years. He married Margaret Chavez on April 28, 1960, while completing his two-year service in the U.S. Army. After his service, Richard and Margaret returned to La Jara to begin raising their family.
RT spent his working career farming and ranching in the San Luis Valley. In 1990, Richard moved to Napa, California to join his son, Michael, who was pursuing his career in the wine industry. He also enjoyed trips to Washington State and Colorado to spend time with his children Laura and David and his grandchildren. In 2019, Richard moved to Beavercreek, Ohio, where he lived the final years of his life with the loving care of his daughter Elizabeth and her family.
Richard’s Catholic faith began in childhood and remained an important part of his life. His children find comfort in knowing that his soul is at rest. His playful smile, always accompanied by a twinkle in his eye, will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Services will be held on Friday, March 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Capulin, Colorado, beginning with a Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Capulin Cemetery.
