

Age 82, of Kettering, passed away Tuesday, October 6, surrounded by his family. Roy was born in Dayton, Ohio, to Fritz and Kathe Fischer on December 16, 1932. He was a proud member of Wilbur Wright High School’s class of 1950. He went on to the University of Dayton, where he played football on the Salad Bowl team of 1951. As a senior, he was captain and Most Valuable Player for the Flyers. After graduating from U.D., he married his high school sweetheart, the former Joyce Stansberry, with whom he recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Roy served honorably in the U.S. Army after college, rising to the rank of first lieutenant. He then worked for N.C.R. for 36 years, retiring in 1993. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dayton, where he served on several committees and was treasurer for many years. Roy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Joyce; son Steve (Tina); daughters Jane (Roger) Jones and Carole (Larry) Lamb; grandchildren Matthew (Andrea) Fischer, Nicole (Chad) Salle, Ben Fischer, Amanda (Jason) Miller, Emily (Kennon) Coleman, Tony Lamb, Andy Lamb, Ali Lamb, Jonna (Rob) Emanuelson, and Shawna (Mike) Gleason; ten great-grandchildren; brother Fred (Karen) Fischer; sister-in-law Susan (Dave) Buschar; niece Amy Buschar; and nephew Tim (Robyn) Buschar. Roy will be remembered most for his generous spirit, his great sense of humor, and his overwhelming love for his family. Visitation will be on Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 239 Wayne Ave.; Funeral services will follow visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to V.A.
