

Ruth M. Balas, 95, of Dayton passed away peacefully at Hospice of Dayton, Nov. 3rd, 2016. She was born June 24th, 1921 to Charles and Verna Mason in Virginia. She moved to Dayton, Ohio upon marriage to Joseph Balas. Her faith in God was very important to her and she was a long time member of Linden Ave. Baptist Church, currently a member of First Baptist Church of Dayton and also attended Corinth Presbyterian Church. She loved square dancing and was a member of Corinth Retirees, Lymphedema Support Group, Anna Circle, NALC Auxiliary 138 and Burroughs Nature Study Club. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; brother, Vivien Mason and sisters, Rebecca Weaver and Eulaleur Burke. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Lewis; sister, Carolee Johnson; grandson, Samuel (Theresa) McKamey IV; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; adopted daughter, Cindy and special friend Donnie along with many dear friends who have helped care for her over the years. She was loved by all who met her. Visitation will take place at Tobias Funeral Home, Belmont Chapel, Dayton, Ohio from 5pm-8pm on Tuesday, Nov. 8th, 2016. Funeral service will take place at 10am on Wednesday, Nov. 9th, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 111 W. Monument Ave., Dayton, OH 45402. Friends may call from 9am until the time of service at church on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, Ohio 45420.
