

Shirley Mae ‘Carroll’ Deriso, age 95, passed away Friday, March 22, 2024 in Beavercreek, OH. She was born on Oct 20, 1928 in New Orleans, LA to the late William J. and Zora M. ‘Dykes’ Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband W. L. ‘Buddy’ Deriso, Macon, GA, by a son, Richard B. Deriso, Delmar, CA, and her sister Vera ‘Carroll’ Connally, Brunswick, GA.
Shirley is survived by sons, Steven R. Deriso, Snellville, GA, and Michael D. Deriso, San Francisco, CA, and a daughter, Deborah D. (Jeff) Brown, Beavercreek, OH. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica and Marc Deriso, CA; Chris Deriso, GA; David Deriso, CA; and Casey (Brown) Berschback, OH, and Lindsay (Brown) Miller, OH; and several great grandchildren.
Shirley spent most of her life in Macon, GA where she worked as a seamstress with her husband in their Deriso Upholstery business and later with the Macon-Bibb County Visitors Welcome Center. She and Buddy spent most of their free time fishing or supporting family sports, but their passion was dancing with their many square and round dance clubs, even showcasing their skills at the Jimmy Carter Presidential Inauguration. Later in life, Shirley spent time playing bridge or volunteering with her Senior Friends at the Macon Coliseum Hospital. Her volunteerism was recognized in 1998 when she was selected as the Humanitarian of the Year and named the Cherry Blossom Senior Festival Princess. Shirley always stayed up-to-date with her family and treasured all calls and visits.
Services are planned for Shirley at Snow’s Memorial Chapel in Macon, GA, at a date to be determined by the family.
