Stella M. Flaherty

Stella Mary (Mader) Flaherty passed peacefully from this life on September 17, 2025 at age 94. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Jack and son Patrick, as well as 8 siblings. She is survived by 4 children, Karen (Eisenhauer), Steve, Kathleen (Maxie), and Christine (Beyer); her sister Grace Monnin; and 12 grandchildren.

Stella was a Dayton native and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1948. Sh attended St Elizabeth’s School of Nursing, graduating with an RN degree in 1951. She worked in public health, as a hospital nurse, and office nurse before marrying Jack in 1953. After raising her five children, she returned to nursing in 1979 and worked at Sycamore Hospital for 14 years. She preferred working the night shift because the quieter pace gave her more time to spend with patients. Prayer was an essential part of her life. She was never without a rosary in her pocket or purse. She prayed for her family, friends, neighbors, patients – anyone in need. Her kind and caring presence will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.

A visitation for Stella will be held Thursday, September 25, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Leonard Faith Community, 8100 Clyo Rd, Centerville, OH 45458, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow.
