Stephen Paul Hodson, Sr., age 75, of Xenia arrived in Heaven, the place he longed to see for many years, on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. He was surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 31, 1941, the son of Frederick Paul and Ethel Louise (Edgington) Hodson, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Jacqueline Duanne Hodson. Steve was a faithful husband, father and grandfather, who loved his Lord and Savior above all else – his devotion and constant love for his family flowed freely because of it. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 wonderful years, Carolyn Jane (Boatman); his 3 loving children, Joanna Hodson and her 2 children, Lauren and Michael; Steve and wife, Becky Hodson and their 7 children, Kara, Nathan, Ellen, Gwen, Brianna, Julia and Henry; Sarah and husband, Adam Mays and their 2 children, Freddy and Layla and 2 other special grandchildren. Steve is also survived by his siblings, Ted and wife, Kay Hodson, Niki and husband, Win Sturgell, Jeff Hodson; his father-in-law, Raymond Boatman and many other relatives and friends. Steve was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Xenia for 45 years and served as the church organist for 40 years. He served the church in many other capacities over the years: a youth group leader for 15 years, a men’s Bible Study leader, an orchestra leader, and much more. Wherever there was a need, Steve was always willing to assist. He was an avid and accomplished musician, having played the trombone in many dance bands over the years. He was also a train enthusiast! A Celebration of Steve’s Life will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1120 South Detroit Street, Xenia, OH. Pastors David Myles and Greg Couser will be officiating. It was Steve’s wish that following the celebration service that you remain and share stories and cookies with the family. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff of Hospice of the Miami Valley and their love and care, especially to Laura Stacy, R.N., his personal nurse for the last two years. Memorial contributions in memory of Steve may be made to either Hospice of the Miami Valley or Emmanuel Baptist Church. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
