Susan T. Coughlin

COUGHLIN, Susan Augusta Touschard, was born in Dayton, Ohio on July 22, 1937 to the late George and Gladys(Barr)Touschard. Susan was married to the late Edward J. Coughlin Jr., who passed away in November of 2011 in Dayton, Ohio. She is survived by her daughter Catherine Coughlin of Brewer, Maine, and step-son Edward J. Coughlin III of New York. Susan grew up in Centerville, Ohio and graduated from Washington Township Centerville High School in 1955. She then attended college at Oberlin in Northern Ohio, and graduated with a degree in French in 1959. She went to New York City, where she worked as a translator and writer at the French Embassy Press & Information Division Service for ten years. As the nature of the job changed, Susan decided to travel to Europe for a while to visit some of the friends she had made during her years in New York City. This was such a success, that she wound up staying in Europe and marrying one of those friends; Edward J. Coughlin Jr. in Geneva Switzerland. Susan spent the next 25 years in Geneva where her daughter Catherine was born, and returned to the United States in 1994 when her husband reached retirement age. She enjoyed collecting seashells and stamps, reading, flowers and art. Susan especially loved the view from the 15th floor apartment in Geneva she lived in; being able to see Switzerland, France and Italy at a glance. Family to receive friends 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM Friday, March 23, 2012 at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME- Far Hills Chapel; where memorial service will be held 11:30 AM Friday, with Fr. Gary Altz officiating. Inurnment will follow at Centerville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Susan’s memory to the Hospice of Dayton 324 Wilmington Ave. Dayton, OH. 45420.
