A young Tom married Nancy Reding near Tulsa, OK, and after having three children, settled in Richardson, TX, for 43 years. Tom served in the United States Army before making a career at Trinity Industries of Dallas, TX, and retired from there after 43 years.
Nothing on earth was more important to Tom than his family, although golf took a close second. From Boy Scout leader to Indian Princesses dad to chaperone at high school lock-ins to camp outs, he was all in. He left us with priceless memories. He could craft anything, from leather working to wood working, he had skill. This came in handy for science projects and Eagle Scout projects alike. Always full of adventure, Tom enjoyed the outdoors and exploring new places, little towns, and historic spots. As a grandpa, he visited plenty of children’s museums and always had the most fun out of all the kids. It was not unusual to find him riding one of his grandkid’s scooters as the youngster followed behind on foot. His sense of wonder never faded but kept him young at heart. As a retiree, he spent time helping with ESL classes, led in various roles at church, and most recently volunteered his time at Cox Arboretum. Most importantly, he loved Jesus, and he loved his family well. He claimed to be “the fastest man in this house,” but slow and steady wins the race was most accurate. You won your race, Dad. Go get your prize.
Tom was preceded in death by his father and mother, Floyd and Nettie McCray, and brother, Richard McCray. He is survived by his wife Nancy Reding McCray, his 3 children Debbie McCray Fowler, Tom McCray, Jill McCray Bodden, five grandchildren, and by his brother Larry McCray. A memorial service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, May 25th at 11:00 am at First Baptist Kettering (3939 Swigart Road, Beavercreek, OH 45440).
