

Smith, Weldon “Smitty”, age 84, died Friday, April 12, 2013, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 25, 1928 in Jackson, Ohio and has been a Beavercreek resident since 1956. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alerd and Verda Smith. The greatest joy in his life was his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruth; sons, Ken and Cheryl Smith, Craig and Sherry Smith; granddaughters, Shannon and Joe Robertson, Kelly and Ted Borgerding, Kristen and Ryan Macks; great grandchildren, Karsyn, Madilynn, Landyn and Emilyn Borgerding, Samuel and Benjamin Smitty Robertson and Baby to be, Charlie Macks; sister Verlyn Conard and sister-in-law, Alice Ireland; step granddaughter, Kim Turner; step great grandchildren, Jacob, Shelby and Chase Turner and many nieces and nephews. Smitty was a graduate of Stivers High School and Bowling Green State University, where he played tennis for both schools. In 1966 he was awarded the Top Alumnus award from BGSU. He was the former President and CEO of N.C.R. (Universal 1) Credit Union, where he worked for 46 years. Smitty volunteered his time and energy for 40 years to the Ohio Junior World Golf Tournament Qualifier at NCR Country Club for the Junior World Championship in San Diego, CA which he attended yearly. As an avid sports enthusiast, he enjoyed being the coach of NCR’s DIAA youth basketball team. Smitty thoroughly enjoyed years of watching his sons, Craig and Ken and granddaughters, Shannon, Kelly and Kristen involved in athletics for Beavercreek and Waynesville High Schools. Smitty also enjoyed watching and traveling with Shannon and the BGSU Womens Golf Team. He was a faithful fan of UD basketball, Cincinnati Bengals and the BGSU Falcons. Smitty was a long time member the Agonis Club and charter member of the NCR Country Club and Beavercreek Golf Club. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with entombment in the Valley View Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Weldon A. Smith Scholarship Fund.
