Deepest Condolences from the Vajda Family to Wes, Gina, and the Mutch family for this unwelcome loss.  

Bill was one of Upper Michigan's great runners. He ran with a great group of friends in Marquette. I have many memories of running with Bill.  He was always smiling.

A loving giant in my life has gone to heaven. I was able to be with him and his beloved Patty for his last days. His was a peaceful letting go with the help of Hospice. In public my dad was a brilliant problem solver, teacher, and Mathematician.  He traveled the country giving papers and going to conferences. He received mail from all over the world asking for help in complex problem solving. I still have a card from Russia asking his help. His dissertation was so complex and solved so quickly his teachers refused to read it, because it was impossible to solve at all, much less in 2 years.  My mother typed it and they borrowed money to publish it and sent it out to Universities all over the country, and the calls came in to his teachers, complementing them on their student.  He received job overs from all over the world, and my favorite was for Africa because I thought I would get a "Born Free" Elsa lion cub on arrival.  He wisely chose Northern Michigan University and our family began it's North East adventures.  My dad was from Idaho, my brother and I were born in Washington State.  My parents and I always considered ourselves Westerners, but my brother, Wesley became a Michigander immediately.  My dad was a brilliant teacher and mathematician, but more importantly to me, he was also a daddy who loved cartoons, and Batman.  He would laugh until he cried at Red Skelton and Carol Burnett.  My dad read to my brother and me every night. We got Scholastic Books in the mail and he taught me about authors, and getting more books by them.    He could stand on his hands and walk across a room, but even better, he could go across a pool on his hands. He could do cart wheels (not well) and somersaults (very well) and flips on a bar at a play ground. He bought me fudgsicles and creamsicles. and at Christmas he made fudge.  He played Santa Claus.  He just loved babies.  He never looked happier than with a baby in his arms. He will be missed.

My grandfather, William Mutch, was the kindest person you could ever meet. He was a devout Christian and a brilliant mathematician, two things that seldom go together yet seemed intrinsic to him. He was a professor at Northern Michigan University for several years and was greatly admired by his students for his patience and ability to break down complex math problems. He lived a humble but fulfilling life and I will always be grateful for the memories we shared. He is survived by my Grandma Patty who my heart goes out to. May you cherish the memories you have and keep the faith that you will one day be reunited.

Sunday I lost a very good friend and my Brother-in-law William (Bill) Mutch.  I meet Bill in 1974 when I was in the Military an I meet and married his sister Debbie Mutch.  I have had several contacts with Bill and his family over the last many years and was a frequent correspondent with him over the years.  Bill took an instant liking to Debbie and my son Jimmy as Jimmy did to Bill.  We have remained friends all these years after Debbie was very tragically killed in 1980.  Bill was there to help me during this very horrific time in our lives, and other Mutch family members also.  Over the years Bill and I have talked many times, however staying away from politics.  Bill my friend you have lived a very long and rewarding life, always giving more than you ever received.     Give Debbie a big kiss for me, it is now your turn to receive your heavenly rewards. Rest in Peace my Friend.

What a wonderful life was shared by many.  Knowing his daughter Marla, it can only be said he was a wonderful, loving man.  Much love and admiration.

I met Bill in Marquette while at NMU before he met my Mom and was married. He was a great friend and Grandfather to Kelly and Nicole. We will miss his intellect and kind soul.
