

MUTCH, William Stanley, age 90 entered eternal life Sunday, January 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Dayton. He was the oldest of 15 children born to Delbert and Dorthea (McCheyne) Mutch on May, 15, 1931. He graduated from Rathdrum High School, Rathdrum, Idaho in 1947. He excelled in sports and band. His first job out of high school was as a carpenter's helper in a logging camp run by Potlatch Forest Inc, Headquarters, Idaho from 1949 to 1950. In 1950, he joined the United States Air Force. He served with the Air Police and was discharged as a Sergeant in 1954. After the Air Force, he attended Eastern Washington College of Education (later Eastern Washington University) where he discovered an aptitude for mathematics in which he received a bachelor's degree in education. From 1958 to 1960 he taught math at Colville Jr. High School, Colville, Washington. From 1960 to 1963 he taught math at Shoreline Jr., High, Shoreline Washington. In 1963 he was at Bowling Green State University where he received his Master's degree. From 1964 to 1967 he was a math instructor at Olympic College, Bremerton, Washington. In 1967 he attended the University of Georgia, Athens Georgia where he was awarded his PhD. In 1969 he moved his family to Marquette, Michigan and took a position in the mathematics department at Northern Michigan University. He retired from NMU in 1993.
After retirement, Bill relocated to Chico, CA. His faith became very important and he and Patty attended Mass every day except Saturday. He became a communion minister, led the Rosary and Holy Hour. He also was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
William is survived by his loving wife Patty, whom he married on August 3, 1984. Also survived by his children: Marla (Monty Mitzelfeld) Mutch, Wesley (Gina Voet) Mutch, Chris (Trish) Pritchard and David (Sarah) Pritchard; grandchildren: Tara (Jim Strand) Eastin, Allen Eastin, Anna Markiewicz, Allison (Keith) Medlin, Alex (Jess) Mutch, Nathan Mutch, Kortney (Andrew) Markkola, Ciara (Erin Powers) Kangas, Shane, Claire and John Pritchard, Kelly (Ryan) Pepin, and Nicole (Dennis) Sackrider great Grandchildren: Noah Medlin, Teddy and Greta Strand, Jackson and Adaline Mutch, Kinsley Markkola, Liam Pepin, Jaxon and Finn Stackrider; siblings: John, Jim, Geoff Mutch and Becky Scheel; and many, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers: Mick, Sam, Dan, Robert, Del Jr. and Tim; his sisters, Erma Lee, Esther, Dorothea (Duffy), and Debbie; and his daughter, Janis Pritchard.
He was a quiet, patient man who loved his family.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at St. Alberts the Great Catholic Church, 3033 Far Hills Avenue, Kettering, OH 45429 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 pm.
William will be laid to rest in Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, OH 45409.
