

Georgia. Buddy went to be with the Lord on February 19, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was such a
loving and caring husband, daddy and granddaddy who always put his family first. He retired from NASA
where he was a crane operator. He hung the missile that stands on the Alabama/Tennessee state line.
He was an entrepreneur who owned rental property in Decatur and years ago owned Lacon Trade Day
and Buddy's Package Store. He was a Decatur resident for over 50 years. He loved Alabama Footb'all
and deer hunting. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a Master Mason and Shriner. The family will
have visitation and celebration of his life Monday, February 23'd at Roselawn Funeral Home from
5:00pm to 9:00pm. The funeral will be Tuesday, February 24th at Roselawn Funeral Home at 2:00pm.
Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Everett and Anthony
Thornton, his mother and father Claude and Eloise Thornton, his sisters Temperance McGhee and
Mamie Fowler.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years Bonnie Lynch Thornton, daughter Melissa Kelso, grandson Ethan
Kelso, stepson Michael Bowman, sister Ann Thornton, niece Kelly Wright, nephews Ashley Steadham,
Jessie Baker and many more nieces and nephews.
