Born on July 18, 1944, in Decatur, Alabama, to J.D. (“Joe”) and Leta Collins, Douglas lived a life centered on faith, family, and friendship. He grew up in Decatur, where he attended Central Baptist Church, and later worked at Monsanto/Solutia until his retirement in 1997.
In 1974, Douglas moved to Brooksville, where he became a devoted member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and remained actively involved for many years.
Douglas deeply loved his family, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as “HaHa.”
He is survived by his daughter, Dana Sides (Scott); son, Kenneth Todd Collins; brother, Michael Collins (Aleta); and three grandchildren, Blake Sides, Meredith Steele (Cole), and Jaycee Dingler (Tucker).
He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Sandi; his parents, J.D. and Leta Collins, and his brother, David Collins.
A celebration of life will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shoal Creek Baptist Church – Special Ministry.
