Edward Richards, 70, of Decatur went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 18, 2011, at National HealthCare in Moulton.

The funeral service will be held at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur with Junior Hill officiating on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 2 p.m. The body will be at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

He was born in Decatur on June 30, 1940, to Dewey and Estes Crow Richards. He was a 1958 graduate of Decatur High School. He attended Clarke Memorial College, graduated with a BS degree from Samford University and later graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Luther Rice Seminary. He was ordained as a Baptist minister at Sixteenth Avenue Baptist Church, Decatur, on October 18, 1959. He served in the ministry for 52 years.

His heart's desire and ambition was to share his faith, study and preach God's word.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Brown Richards and sister, Betty Richards Matthews (Ronald), both of Decatur; five children, Donna Long, Trinity, Debbie Albano (Robin), Trinity, Edward Richards Jr. (Donna Collins), Montgomery, Ginger Richey (Terry), Trinity and Beth Balch (Matt), Decatur; and 10 grandchildren.
