Funeral for Emma "Joyce" Roper Goehler, 72, of Decatur will be today, July 28, 2011, at 5 p.m. at Austinville First Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Berry officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. Goehler, who died Tuesday, July 26, 2011, was born October 27, 1938, in Decatur to Roy Malcolm Roper and Ruby Nell Craig Roper. She worked for MetLife for 32 years and was a lifelong member of Austinville First Baptist Church. She attended UNA and Samford University. Mrs. Goehler was an avid gardener and member of the Straw Hat Garden Club in Decatur. She loved Elvis and southern gospel music. She loved her cats. Her parents and stepfather, Bill Palmer, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Paul Goehler; sister, Maxine Gillespie; sister-in-law, Lee Goehler; nieces, Jackie Trebesh, Jenish Fontenot (Mike) and Anna O'Hara; nephew, David Gillespie Jr. (Patti); great-nieces, Rachel Trebesh and Mary Taylor Fontenot; and great-nephews, Daxton and Blaze Gillespie.
Pallbearers will be Sonny Craig, Randy Bailes, Waymon Cheatham, Bruce Cheatham, Samuel Cooper, Rex Cheatham, David Gillespie Jr., Dax Gillespie and Mike Fontenot.
Honorary pallbearers will be former deacons of Austinville First Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund.
