
Frank Wayne Bynum, age 73, was received by our Lord on Friday, October 7, 2011. Born in Horton, AL, Mr. Bynum was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil Odis and Lela Debter Bynum; his two brothers, Noval Bynum and Ronald Bynum; and his granddaughter, Miller Katherine Bynum. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Gloria Bynum. They were married on August 10, 1962. Also surviving are his brother, Royce (Irene) Bynum of Birmingham, AL; his sister Mary Jo (Ray) Brown of Alexandria, AL; his two children: Robin (Chris) Fly of Magnolia Springs, AL, and Gary (Leigh) Bynum of Collierville, TN. Survivors also include his three beloved grandchildren: George Fly of Tuscaloosa, AL, and Mitchell and Madelyn Bynum of Collierville, TN.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Bynum reflected the love of his Savior onto all that knew him. As a member of Central Park Baptist Church for 45 years, he served as deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and R.A. leader. After serving his country in the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Bynum led a distinguished career in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), retiring in 1997 from the position of Director of Personnel, Marshall Space Flight Center. He was an avid golfer, and also enjoyed playing and coaching softball in both church and community leagues. He also coached a multitude of Little League baseball teams. Mr. Bynum graduated from Samford University in 1960 with a degree in Business Administration.
Visitation will be today, October 9, from 6 pm to 8 pm at Roselawn Memorial Funeral Home, 741 Danville Rd. in Decatur. The funeral will be Monday, October 10, at 11:00 am at Roselawn Memorial Funeral Home, Reverends Jackie Kay and Craig Carlisle officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Park Baptist Church or to your favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Howard Dahlem, Malcolm Fuller, Rodney Harney, Jerald Kerby, Gerald Marks, Larry Monk, Steve Stovall, and David Whitten. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Central Park Baptist Church and Robert Brooks.
The family would like to express special thanks for the extraordinary love and care extended to their husband and father by his personal physician, Dr. Rodney Harney, and the nurses and staff of Parkway Medical Center.
