George Emerson Truitt was born September 17, 1947. He died August 20, 2024, after a short battle with Leukemia. During his life, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. The world lost a great man with his passing. George may have met a stranger, but likely they weren’t strangers long. He has touched many lives in his careers and regular life. He at times was employed by Monsanto/ Solutia, the State of Alabama, and the Decatur City Schools system. Outside of work he was an EMT, a paramedic, a graduate of the University of Alabama, and an active member of Beltline Church of Christ, formerly Memorial Drive Church of Christ. He participated in many medical mission trips of which he was proud to be a member. He married Karen Webb in 1966 and they were together until the day he passed 58 years later.
He is survived by his wife Karen, his son Dennis and his wife Katie, his grandchildren, Clayton and his wife Kelly, and Elizabeth and her husband Patrick. He also has two great-grandchildren, Shepherd and Gwendolyn. His brother Daniel Truitt and his wife Deborah and his sister-in-law Ruby Truitt survive him as well as many nieces and nephews. All of them will miss his presence and influence in their lives going forward but will remember the good times and great advice they received from George, Dad, and PawPaw.
He is predeceased by his parents, George and Edith Truitt and his brother Roger.
Visitation will be on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, with the funeral service following at 2:00 PM in the chapel of the funeral home. Mr.Truitt will be laid to rest at Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please practice a random act of kindness or tell a good story to a friend, loved one, or stranger, soon to be friend, as George will be remembered for doing by those that know and love him.
