George Leslie “Bubba” Wells, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on August 16th 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Bubba was born August 26th 1940 in Hillsboro, AL to Robert Gerald Wells and Bessie Lou Corum Wells. He moved to Decatur as a child and lived there until his passing. Bubba graduated from Decatur High School in 1958 and went on to Florence State College (now UNA) where he played baseball and studied accounting. He graduated in 1964 with his degree in accounting. In 1965, he went to work with Defense Contract Audit Agency as a government auditor. He remained there until his retirement in 2005.
Bubba loved playing softball until his early 60’s. He loved Auburn tiger football, Gunsmoke, fishing, and he loved to sing and was always humming. His greatest love was spending time with his four grandchildren. He never missed a school event, sports game or any activity they were involved in.
Bubba loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian. He grew up attending Beech Street Church of Christ and was most recently a member of Beltline Church of Christ.
Bubba is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carolyn NeSmith Wells, his daughters Emily Gardner (Bo) and Leslie King (Mark), and his grandchildren Max and Sam Gardner and Lily and Eli King.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Billy Wells, and in-laws Hollis and Ruby NeSmith.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 20, 2024 from 3:30-6:00 PM immediately followed by the funeral in the chapel at Roselawn Funeral Home with Steve Smith officiating. Private burial will be held on Wednesday.
Pallbearers will be Randy Smith, David Royer, Barry Smith, Ethan Sharp, Jeff Turner and Stanley Allen. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim King, Billy Miles, Rick Davis, Harry Hames, Richard Chandler and Butch Wiley.
