
Moulton
Helen Catherine "Kate" Wiechelman Hoppenjans, born November 10, 1927, passed peacefully away to a better life April 28, 2012, in Moulton after a valiant battle with Alzheimer's and dementia. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernard J. "Bud" Hoppenjans; her parents, Harry A. and Helen Carney Wiechelman; her two sisters, Joan W. McClorey and Eileen W. Gronotte; and nephew, Anthony "Tony" Gronotte.
She was born and raised in Fort Mitchell, Ky., and was graduated in 1945 from Notre Dame Academy. She worked as an executive secretary for Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio, for nine years. She married Bud and moved to Decatur where they raised five children and became involved in many church, school and social activities.
She was a devout member of St. Ann Catholic Church, now Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church where she was member of the Altar Society, St. Ann's School PTA and a school nurse at St. Ann's Catholic School. Later Kate helped Bud with the Knights of Columbus bingo nights. She was a charter member of Burningtree Country Club and fell in love with the game of golf. She served as president of the Women's Golf Association and made a hole in one at the age of 65! She also played bridge monthly with her friends and had a passion for cooking and baking that brought her whole family together.
Survivors include her children, Annie Daniels (Mike), Bernie Hoppenjans (Laurel), John Hoppenjans (Lee), Elizabeth Urbanski (Bill) and Matthew Hoppenjans; and grandchildren, Michael and Jonathan Daniels, Elise, Jack and Konrad Hoppenjans, Cooper John and Mary Kate Urbanski and Hartford Hoppenjans and numerous nephews and nieces and their families.
The family wishes to thank the caring and kind professionals at NHC Healthcare in Moulton for their devotion to Kate's wellbeing.
The family will receive visitors between 6 and 8 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home on Tuesday May 1, 2012. Mass of Resurrection will be Wednesday, May 2 at 10 a.m. at Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Church.
