

John Robert Nebrig of Decatur passed away on December 22, 2025.
Visitation will be on Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 1:00pm – 2:00pm at Roselawn Funeral Home in Decatur, Alabama. The Celebration of Life service will begin at 2:00pm at the Roselawn Funeral Chapel with Brother Dallas Culver officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Decatur City Cemetery.
John is survived by his lovely wife Sandra Johnston Nebrig, daughter Lisa Nebrig Strane (Michael), son Ken Nebrig (Emily) and Grandchildren Hudson Strane, Brooks Nebrig and Zach Kennamer.
John is proceeded in death by his father and mother Otto and Lucille Nebrig, brothers Otto Nebrig Jr., Louis Nebrig and Sister Beverly Rozear.
John and Sandra met during their junior year at Decatur High School. John went on to study Mechanical Engineering at Auburn University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971. While attending Auburn, he was a member of the Alpha Delta Chapter of Sigma Pi. Soon after graduation, John and Sandra married, and he began his career working at Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in North Alabama in the construction phase of Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant. John then transferred to TVA in Tennessee continuing with the construction of a new plant before returning to Browns Ferry in North Alabama. He wanted to be close to home and family as the arrival of his and Sandra’s first child was approaching. In 1992, John changed government agencies and joined NASA where he executed many lead engineering jobs including Propellants, Pressures and Cryogenics as the engineering team lead to include calibration and facilities. In his time at NASA, John was a certified diver and dove with many astronauts assisting with their Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory programs including the Hubble Telescope Repair mission. With all his accomplishments and efforts to NASA and its mission to human flight safety, John was awarded the Silver Snoopy Award for his excellence in support. John retired from NASA in 2009 which then allowed him time to travel with his wife, attend Auburn University sports games and visit with his kids, grandkids and many friends.
Pallbearers will be nephews Russel Langston and Lyle Langston, son-in-law Michael Strane, and grandchildren Brooks Nebrig, Hudson Strane, and Zach Kennamer.
