Margaret Ann Cottingham

Margaret Ann Cottingham, 85, of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2025. A graveside service will be on Monday, January 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Cemetery with Brandon Betterton officiating.

She graduated from Old Trinity High School in 1959. Margaret was saved at 13 years old at Flower Hill Baptist Church with Bro. Clinton Oneal. She and her mother were baptized together. She loved the Lord and served in church ministry all her life. Margaret traveled the world for 13 years in the singing ministry for Jimmy Ricky Ministries. Her favorite thing was picking up children and taking them to church with the Decatur Christian Fellowship Ministries. Margaret was always helping others.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Betty Cottingham; brothers, John Lambert, Floyd Lambert, Charlie Cottingham, Phillip Cottingham, and Curtis Cottingham; sister, Mary Lambert Stephens, Willard Williams, and Willie McKinney.

She is survived by brother, Cliff Cottingham; even though she had no children of her own she thought of her niece, Lisa Betterton (Jerry) and nephew, Terry Cottingham (Pamela) as her children, and their children as her grandchildren, Sean Prater (Nancy), Chad Prater (Natasha), Shawan Prater Harden (Randy), Brandon Betterton (Paige), Danny Betterton (April), Jordan Wallace (Grace), Cliff Cottingham, and Derek Cottingham (Hailey); great-grandchildren, Aleia Prater, Chance Osmer, Steven Osmer, Devon Osmer, Jordan Wallace, Rachelle Harden, Joseph Harden, Grace Betterton, Lyla Betterton, William Betterton, Travis Betterton, Jay Stuchman, and Ava Claire Cottingham; great-great granddaughter, Rowan Grey Wallace.

She leaves behind a host of family and friends that she loved dearly. She will be missed and loved dearly. Love isn’t a strong enough word for her.

The family of Margaret Cottingham would like to thank Meals on Wheels, especially Tony Martin, who became her friend. And would greatly like to thank the staff at Decatur Health and Rehab for their care and kindness during her time at their facility.
