
Sarah Jane Taylor passed away at her home Friday May 18, 2012. A graveside service will be held Monday, May 21, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur with the Reverend Gary Formby officiating and Roselawn Funeral Home directing. A memorial service will be Tuesday, May 22 in Birmingham at 10:30 a.m. at South Highland Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow.
Sarah Jane was born in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Joseph Oscar White and Willie Hampton White. She was a homemaker and mother. After graduating from Women's College in Greensboro, N.C., now UNC-Greensboro, Sarah Jane taught English at Grey High School prior to her marriage to Glenn in August of 1950. Glenn and Sarah started their family in Albemarle, N.C. Over the next 30 years, Glenn's career led them first to Dothan then to Birmingham, and finally to Nashville, Tenn. Upon retirement, they returned to Birmingham for 17 years and recently moved to Decatur. Sarah Jane was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, a community volunteer, an active member of South Highland Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, and beloved by her family and many friends. She was always available to help friends and neighbors in times of distress with gifts of food and encouragement.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of almost 62 years, Glenn E. Taylor; one son, Mitchell Taylor (Marianne) of Marietta Ga.; two daughters, Kathie Taylor Tharpe (Craig) of Opelika and Melinda Taylor Woller (Ronald) of Decatur; eight grandchildren, Virginia Tharpe Cochran (Chris), Taylor Tharpe, Joey Woller (Lauren), Leta Woller, Mallie Taylor and Mary Cameron Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial gifts may be made to The South Highland Presbyterian Foundation, Birmingham.
