Dorothy Marie (Collins) Congro, born June 27, 1938, passed away on October 20, 2025 at the age of 87. “Dottie” was born in Queens, NY, daughter of the late Henry and Edna (Ennis) Collins. Dottie met the love of her life, Frank, at St. Mary Gate of Heaven School. They married in 1962 and moved to Deer Park in 1966 where they raised their family, living in the same house until her passing. Throughout their marriage, Dottie and her husband were fortunate to have been able to travel and take many trips and make memories with their children and then continued to travel when the kids were grown.
Dottie was a devout Catholic and an active parishioner at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church, being a member of the Rosary Altar Society for over 50 years. For many of those years she was a member of the team that washed and ironed priest vestments and altar linens, up until just a few years ago. She also participated in many church functions over the years, including teaching catechism in her home, organizing rosary dinner dances, fundraising bake sales and casino nights, and a weekly collection counter.
Dottie had many friends that she enjoyed spending time with, including beloved neighborhood friends and friends from the pool where she loved to swim for the last 15 years. She would enjoy hosting friends for lunch or coffee, and maybe even a dip in the pool at home.
Dottie is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Frank, and their four children: Denise (Bill); Frank (Roseann); Debbie; and Rick (Nicole). She was also proud grandmother to eight grandchildren whom she affectionately referred to as her “beauties”: Brittany (Mike), Joe, Scott, Lauren, Maureen, Alison, Brooke and Michael. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews that held a special place in her heart. Dottie was predeceased by all 10 of her siblings, Gerard Collins, Henry Collins, John Collins, Robert Collins, Joseph Collins, Ann Gilroy, Jane Marotta, Maureen Belfiore, Grace Pesci, and Patricia Collins.
Calling hours will be held at Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home in Deer Park on Wednesday, October 22 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and again from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, October 23 at 11:15 am at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Deer Park.
