Howard Vincent Randolph, Jr. was born on November 26, 1942 to Howard V. Randolph, Sr. and Dorothy Agnes Callender in New York City, NY. He married Novella L. Shockley and of this union gave birth to Adena and Jeffrey.
Howard attended Tennessee State University where he met his wife Novella. He graduated in 1966 with a degree in Sociology. Upon graduation, he went to work as a case worker with the New York City Department of Social Services and subsequently with the New York City Department of Human Resources as a Social Worker. In 1984, Howard became employed as a Parole Officer with the New York State Executive Division of Parole. He subsequently retired in 2005.
Howard was civic minded. He joined the Belmont Lake Civic Association in 1975, the oldest African American Civic Organization in the state of New York. He served on the Executive Board until he became ill. His contribution was that of President for seven years and an additional seven years as Treasurer. Howard also served on the Dorothy I Height Community Advisory board for minority health disparities research at the University of Houston / MD Anderson Center. Howard was a life member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He served on the Executive Board of his chapter, Eta Theta Lambda, Inc. as Treasurer for seven years. He also served on the chapters Education Foundation board and served as chaperone coordinator for the chapter's annual student college tour.
Howard is survived by his wife, Novella. His daughter, Adena Ajayi and husband Akin. His son, Jeffrey Randolph and wife Shelby. His five granddaughters, Tolani Ajayi, Kehinde Ajayi, Taiye Ajayi, Kira Randolph and Neena Randolph. His nieces, Lynsey Shockley and Mya Simmon and his in-laws, Cheryl and James Durant and Alonzo Schockley, along with a host of cousins and extended family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Boyd-Caratozzolo Funeral Home on February 12, 2022.
At the family's request, they are asking all visitors to follow the CDC's protocol and be fully vaccinated and wearing masks.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the following organizations, St. Jude Hospital, ETL Educational Foundation of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., ALS Foundation and Alzheimer's Association Long Island.
