To John's Family,
I just learned of John DiMartino's passing.  Like John, most of my career was spent at NYC's DEP. I started in the summer of 1969 as a clerk in the 24 hour DEP Communication Center.  Over my nearly 28 years I rose from those ranks through many positions .......the last years as a Deputy Commissioner and Executive Director of the NYC Water Board.  I mention my career journey because from day 1 John's name , sewer operations expertise and position of authority was made known to me as one to inform and contact in the event of critical emergency sewer system issues.  I can share with you that from the time I was just a young low on the organization chart clerk to the years that I served as a Deputy Commissioner, John's warmth and enthusiasm to share his knowledge and be of help was always seemingly second nature to him.  He was always a soft spoken but authoritative mentoring figure to all who had the pleasure to gain knowledge  from him.  John's gentle smile, accessability, and complete dedication to the NYC wastewater system as well as all the operations under the DEP was always forthcoming.......and it did not make a difference if your were an entry level employee or a high ranking member of the Agency or City governmental official.....John afforded all  in an exquisitely polite manner the best of his skills and expertise......and the City and all of us who had the pleasure to know him as a colleague were enriched by him.

Having viewed the dedication video of John, I can see through those many photos that his warmth and the love he gave and received from all of you who were close to him , reflected the same kind of positive and warm human essence that those of us who experienced him in his professional life had the pleasure to enjoy, John was truly a man for all seasons.
