When someone leaves us, we focus on the date they were born and the date they died. The dash in between is just as important as the dates, because it represents the time the person lived. And Ruth lived a long life of 95 years.
Ruth is a biblical Hebrew name that means companion, friend and vision of beauty. Biblical Ruth was the great grandmother of King of David a descendant of Jesus.
Ruth was the sixth child of Ella and John Malone. Mary, Ray, Herbert, Grace, Joe, Harold, John and Dottie. She was the last living member of her family.
Ruth was Henry’s wife and Mom to James, Dennis, John and Denise. Mom was a grandmother and great grandmother. True to her name, she was a vision of beauty with her blond hair, bright blue eyes and beautiful figure.
Ruth worked for a short time in a Christmas factory making Christmas ornaments. She loved Christmas!
Mom did not enjoy being the center of attention. She did not demand much from life. She loved taking care of her home and hosting family gatherings for so many holidays and summer barbeques throughout the years. We enjoyed her potato salad and her Plum Jelly Spareribs.
Mom was quick to console when her children needed an understanding heart or encouragement. She was there to support us financially or emotionally. Mom was quick to give praise or offer a reprimand when necessary. Mom liked to tease her daughter in law when she did silly things. So, her daughter in law would do the silly things just to egg her on. Mom’s favorite saint was St. Therese’ of the Little Flower. Mom had holy water fonts in her home.
Mom enjoyed reading the “Star” and “Enquirer”. These newspapers sparked many lively conversations.
Mom’s dad told her “you eat like a bird”, but Mom said that wasn’t true because birds eat a lot and she did not.
We all shared a lot of happy times and created beautiful memories throughout the years.
Mom although you are gone from us your spirit and inspiration will live on in those who loved you. We were blessed to have you for so many years. We know you will be waiting at the door to welcome us home!
