

Bert De Vore, 91, passed away in Boca Ratón, Florida on October 26, 2020. Bert was born on August 12,1930 in Coney Island Hospital, Brooklyn, New York to Arthur “Artie” Bernstein and Susan “Sue” Bressler. He grew up in Brooklyn, New York. After graduating from James Monroe High School, he obtained his Associate Degree in Electronics at City College of New York. A few years later he met Laura Esther Borrego, a student at College of Mt. St. Vincent in Riverdale, New York. In 1954. Bert and Laura travelled to San Juan, Puerto Rico where Laura was born. They were married at Parroquia del Perpetuo Socorro in Miramar, Santurce, Puerto Rico on August 12, 1954. Their first child, a daughter, was born in New York and their three other children (boys) were born in Puerto Rico. In 1960, the family moved to Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. Bert became a sales representative for educational books (Prentice Hall, McGrawHill, Houghton Mifflin, to name a few) and received many awards for his excellent performance. He and his wife Laura founded Carla Books and More, a bookstore that catered to elementary and high schools. Bert loved music especially opera, classical, and popular music as well. He listened to music his entire life and enjoyed singing and telling jokes, with his great sense of humor. He loved baseball and was an avid fan, especially the New York Yankees and the Washington Nationals. He also enjoyed writing poems and songs, one with lyrics that were copyrighted when he was 88 years old (“Love, here is my heart”). Bert was an active member of the Rotaries and Elks Club for many years where he donated his time with volunteer service and generosity. Bert loved the Chevy Corvette and participated in trips with different Corvette Clubs in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He enjoyed life to the fullest and his memory will live on in all those who knew and loved him.
Bert was preceded in death by his first wife, Laura in 1997 and in 2015 by his second wife, Monica Lantigua; his parents, Artie and Sue; his son Richard Francis and his brother Melvin De Vore. He is survived by his children, Denise Ellen of Aguas Buenas, Puerto Rico; Robert William of Escondido, California Luis Guillermo of Boca Ratón, Florida and his loving grandchildren Alejandro De Vore, Vanessa De Vore, María Jesús Boltes, Roser Boltes, Tonathiuh Rodriguez, and Sebastian Rodriguez.
A ceremony of ashes released at sea will be at a later date. Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to Rappahannock POPS Orchestra in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
