Known affectionately as "the Jersey Shore's favorite milkman", he owned and operated HOME TOWN DAIRY, INC. from 1971 - 1997. He also partnered with Nancy Schott in Home Town Travel, Inc. in Manahawkin, NJ.
Born in Orange, NJ, he lived most of his life in Beachwood, his "little slice of Heaven", and raised his 4 daughters there. Later residing there for 23 years with his wife, Lynn, he relocated to Florida when Super Storm Sandy took it's toll on his riverfront home.
He leaves behind Lynn, his loving wife of 29 years, 4 beautiful daughters: Nancy (Tony) Lorenzo of Beachwood, Patty (Larry) Belluscio of Purcellville, VA, Barbara Davis of Berlin, NJ, and Joanne (Gary) Rice of Stuart, FL, 2 stepsons: Jack Martin of Deerfield Beach, FL and Michael Martin of Toms River, NJ. Also left behind are 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild, and a host of loving family and friends.
Burt was never happier than when he was helping someone in need, even if it was just a smile and word of encouragement. He especially enjoyed cheering for his favorite team, the NY Giants. A loyal diehard fan, he loved to tailgate or host Super Bowl parties in Florida. Everyone knew his love of the game and the Giants.
He graduated from Toms River High School, class of 1949, and was inducted into their Hall of Fame, and later into their Sport Hall of Fame for Baseball.
Early on, he co-founded the Beachwood/Pine Beach Little League, was Past President and exempt member of the Beachwood Fire Co., and Past President of the Beachwood/Berkeley Rotary Club. As a "Paul Harris" fellow with more than 45 years in Rotary, he lived the 4 way test every day.
He served a number of charitable endeavors for many years and was feted by several, too many to list, but most notably The United Way of OC, was Trustee Emeritus of Community Medical Center, and was named "Citizen of the Year" of his beloved home town of Beachwood in 1995.
His good deeds did not go unnoticed by his ultimate hero, Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior.
While snowbirding in FL, he attended Christ Church UM in Ft. Lauderdale, singing in the choir, serving with his wife as lay pastors by hosting a Wesley Fellowship Group and serving Communion.
But he loved his home church, First United Methodist of Toms River; having joined in 1949, he was the longest surviving member of that church until his passing.
A service to celebrate his life of love and service will be held at the church on Chestnut St. and Old Freehold Rd, in Toms River on Sept. 29th at 11:00 AM with a repast following at The Captain's Inn, Lacey Rd, Forked River, NJ
In lieu of flowers, kindly consider a lasting gift to his church in his memory as a legacy to his faith.
He will be sorely missed by all.
Arrangements entrusted to Kraeer-Becker Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Deerfield Beach, FL.
