John Bledsoe Patterson passed away on March 27, 2021. He was born in Fort Lauderdale on April 29, 1968 to George and Miriam Patterson. He was raised in Deerfield Beach alongside his brothers Stephen and Brian. He attended Pope John Paul II High School and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1990 where he met the love of his life Amy Hoodecheck Patterson. He returned to Florida to attend law school at Nova Southeastern and graduated in 1994. He began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for Broward County pursuing justice for victims for five years. He married Amy in 1998 and they settled in Lighthouse Point. He continued his practice at Wicker Smith followed by several years of practice with Bob Montgomery. In 2006 John and Adam Balkan formed Balkan & Patterson, LLP in Boca Raton where he honed his craft for protecting victims and became Board Certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. John and Amy had two children, Kayla and Ryan, to whom he was dearly devoted. John parented with his whole heart, coaching their soccer teams, camping at Indian Princesses and Guides, running road races with them and being their biggest champion. John was full of life and spread that exuberance every where he went. He supported St. Coleman school and parish for years, serving up beer and corn hole bags at the Italian Festival, and donating whenever asked. He sponsored Lighthouse Point Soccer teams and Dinner Under the Stars. He served in Deerfield Beach Rotary in various positions over the years and on the city’s advisory board. If he wasn’t at a child’s sporting event, he was golfing, training for sprint and half Ironman triathlons, paddleboarding around the canal or building strength at Cross Fit. He and Amy loved to travel spending time with extended family. His life was too short, but it was full and beautiful.

We can not express enough our deep sorrow that John has passed. The entire Kerr family including Shelby and Sydney remember all those great days on the soccer fields of Florida. The memories make us smile and your entire family enriched our lives with a wonderful gift. God Bless you all and we will miss John but we will cherish his memory.

My first memory of John when I went to work as a prosecutor at the State Attorneys Office was seeing him in the office one night “after hours”, working hard to prepare for court the next morning. He was at the copy machine wearing his suit pants, dress shirt and tie, with no shoes- only his socks on his feet. I remember thinking how dedicated and determined he was to be ready to present his case well, but was even more impressed with how easy going and comfortable he was to be around. A couple years later, my husband Jimmy and I were lucky enough to go skiing in Beaver Creek, Colorado with John and Amy, and Gregg and Irene Rossman and it was honestly one of our best vacations ever! We had a lot of laughs whenever we were fortunate enough to spend time with John! Great memories to keep for a lifetime! You will never be forgotten JP, but you most certainly will be missed. RIP my friend. Julie and Jimmy Vogel

John represented me after I was injured several years ago. He went above and beyond to absorb the stress of fighting with insurance companies, freeing me to focus on healing. Years later, he took excellent care of an elderly member of our family.
We fondly remember his professionalism and his caring concern.
Our sincere condolences to his family. His life was too short but he lived it fully and did so much for others.

Amy, Kayla and Ryan, please accept our deepest condolences for your loss.

I got to know John at the Broward State Attorney's Office and he has been a friend ever since.

My favorite memory of John is picturing his huge grin as he would launch into a great story. I'm sure everyone reading this knows what I mean. He always made the people around him happier that they had spoken to him and the day brighter for having seen him. He will be deeply missed.

I had the pleasure and honor of knowing John as a lawyer, Colleague and friend. John was such a wonderful person & was always there to lend an ear or a hand. 12-15yrs ago I needed help with a trial and John dropped everything to be available to come to WPB to cross examine a witness for me. The case settled before he was needed but he was coming in fully prepared. He never sought thanks, money or recognition for his assistance. This is just 1 small example that I can share. I am sure there are hundreds to thousands of these stories that could be shared. He was the first to call you to see how you were doing and to check in. The void will be great but the legacy is even greater. God speed by friend until we see each other again. God bless you and your family. Slainte

Amy and family. So very sorry to hear of JP’s untimely passing. I had the privilege of knowing John when we worked together at the SAO. We shared many laughs even during the tough times; maybe even more of them during those times. JP was a good man and now gone too soon. He will be missed.

I was the first secretary that John Patterson worked with on the Plaintiff’s side at Montgomery & Larmoyeux’s office. He was a smart, kind and no nonsense lawyer that worked his way up. We had a great work relationship and I can’t believe my friend is gone. My heart breaks that such a great man, father and husband is gone too soon. I will miss him. I’ll look for you on the other side John.
