August 15, 1933 – July 11, 2023
Josephine Moussa Nimah passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, in Pompano Beach. She was 1-month shy of her 90th birthday and had resided in Coconut Creek for the last 7 years. She was born to Moussa and Nazli Asso in Qamishli, Syria. She lost her mother when she was only 2-years old but found solace and joy in her siblings and their children whom she loved dearly.
She lived in Aleppo until her engagement and marriage to Fahim George Nimah, on September 10, 1960, in Beirut, Lebanon. They were happily married until his death in April 2006. They immigrated with their three children to their long-awaited destination to become permanent residents and ultimately citizens of the United States of America at the end of 1971. Their first order of business was to find a church, Covenant Presbyterian, where they were members and served for the next forty years. Her and her husband’s faith was the center of their daily lives. She recalled her father reading the Bible daily and married a faithful man.
Josephine spoke 5 languages, Arabic, Aramaic, French, Armenian, and English, was an avid reader, taught primary education, was an activist for women, children and the under-privileged, studied fashion design and created some of the most beautiful garments one could conceive. After the passing of her husband, she volunteered at Broward Center of Performing Arts for several years. She enjoyed feeding her family, gathering in the kitchen or around the table for meals, even though she hated cooking! She loved books (of multiple languages), music, theatre, dance, traveling, knitting, crocheting, and, most of all, serving and supporting her family. She is a true matriarch and the best example of unconditional love for her family.
She is survived by her Children, Randa Flinn (S. Douglas), Fabiola Brumley (C. Dean) and Samer Nimah; Grandchildren Justin Brumley (Alice), Caroline Flinn, Heather Brumley (Daniel Barrera), Allison King (Jordan), Jillian Mendoza (Mario), Matthew Nimah, Adam Nimah, and Emily Nimah; Great-Grand-Children Charlie Barrera, James King, Claire King, Robert Barrera, Cara King, and Fabiola Josefina Mendoza.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday, July 16th, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Kraeer-Becker Funeral Home, 217 E. Hillsboro Blvd, Deerfield Beach, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering a donation to Kids in Distress or a charity of your choice.
