Aladino "Dino" Cassar was born on October 6, 1935, in Tripoli, Libya, during its time as an Italian colony. He was preceded in death by his father Francesco, mother Andreina, brother Ottorino Cassar, and son, Lonnie.
Dino is survived by his loving wife Sue, sister Melvia, brother Antonio. Children Anthony, Terry, and Joan, as well as a cherished group of grandchildren: Ricky, Shyanne, Cameo, Kat, Allen, Ryan, Charlie, Polly, Alexa, Nicole and Great-grandchildren Nathan, Eternity, Gavin, Remington, Oakly, and Levi, along with countless nieces, nephews, cousins and friends around the globe.
Dino's early life was marked by the turmoil of World War II. As a refugee, they evaded German and Italian forces by hiding in the mountains and farms. They survived by scavenging for food and endured the harrowing experience of twice living in refuge / concentration camps. Dino's father, a member of the resistance, rejoined the family after the war in Malta.
In his youth, Dino harbored dreams of becoming a professional football (soccer) player. He spent every day kicking around anything he could find with his brothers. However, his life took a different turn when he and his sister emigrated to America. Dino enlisted in the Air Force, where he served with honor in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. Over a distinguished 23-year career, he retired as a Master Sergeant. During his time in the military, Dino showcased his athletic prowess as a field goal kicker for the Upper Heyford soccer and football clubs. The New England Patriots even scouted him, but Dino chose to remain in the Air Force.
Following his military service, Dino worked as a mechanical drafter at Carson and Machine, earning several patents for his designs of natural gas compressors. It was here that he met the love of his life, Sue. Together, they enjoyed countless adventures, especially fishing trips with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dino and Sue also owned Leisure Time Video in Del City, where they were beloved by their customers. As active members of The Italian Club, Dino was known for his vibrant personality, love of dancing, and prowess in card games like Pinochle, Spades, and Scopa. He was an avid bowler, winning several league championships during his time in base leagues.
A passionate soccer coach, Dino guided the Midwest City Phantoms youth team to multiple state championships, mentoring young players and instilling in them the values of self-belief and teamwork. Many of his former players remained in touch with him throughout his life, a testament to the lasting impact he had on their lives.
Dino's love-hate relationship with the Dallas Cowboys was well-known, and leaned towards an Oklahoma Cowboy fan where he watched his wife enthusiastically support her favorite team. He remained a lifelong supporter of Juventus, his Italian club team, and eagerly awaited the day Italy would win the World Cup again.
In his later years, Dino could often be found in front of his TV, watching every soccer game he could find. His life was a testament to resilience, dedication, and love for family and friends. Dino's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
