Al was a decorated veteran of 34 years in the United States Army, a hard-working family man, and mighty man of God.
Al was born to John and Marion Beck on July 14, 1940, in New Kensington, Pennsylvania. As the oldest of four children, it was obvious at a young age that he was destined to be a leader and provider.
Al left Pennsylvania when he joined the Army, and he met the love of his life, Lynn, on June 21,1959, in Delta Junction, Alaska. They married 3 years later on August 10, 1962, and together they created a loving family with son John, daughter Tami, and son Alvie. Al and Lynn celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2022.
While serving in the U.S. Army, he spent time in Korea as a mortarman and in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. In addition to his military service, Al worked for the city of Ada for 24 years, and he served a number of years in the Kiwanis Club of Greater Ada acting as President, Secretary, Locomotive Engineer, and SnoCone Specialist, among other things, namely, with Lynn as Santa and Mrs. Claus. He was also an ordained minister, pastoring several churches and acting as creator and head of the Senior Adult Ministries (SAM) for the Pentecost Church of God in Oklahoma in the latter years of his life.
Al came to know Jesus as his savior in 1958 in Alaska, and it was his lifelong wish that each family member, present and future, come to know the Lord in a personal way. At his last Thanksgiving, he said, “I pray that through my life you have been exposed to the grace of God. I pray that I have shown you Jesus.” He demonstrated the love of Christ to many people over the years, and he leaves behind a legacy of Christ’s love and grace.
Family was always a priority for Al. He enjoyed working in his wood shop, where he built several projects, and he loved being at the lake, where he spent many summer days with family. He found great joy in RVing, taking his boat out, and fishing with his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.
Al was preceded in death by his parents John and Marion Beck, two brothers Richard and John, sister Joyce Gregurich, and daughter-in-law Barbie Beck.
He is survived by his wife Lynn, John, Tami Low and husband Darrin, Alvie II and wife Melissa. Additionally, he is lovingly remembered as “Papa” and “Grandpa” by his grandchildren Zachary and wife Angie, Jordan and Abbey, Allyson and husband Gabriel, Taylor, Delaney, Hannah and husband Bradley, Morgan, Mikayla, Natalie, Kate, and Dylan, as well as 12 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family.
Al Beck’s incredible life of service, love, and faith has left an indelible legacy that will not soon be forgotten. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered as a true example of Christ’s love and grace.
A visitation for Al will be held Monday, May 22, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunny Lane Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 2 PM at Sunny lane Funeral Home and Cemetery followed by a graveside service to include full military honors.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Marc Weitzel, Dr. Coty Jewell, Dr. Shoab Nazir of the Oklahoma Heart Hospital; Elara Home Health & Hospice; and the late Reverend E.N. Gurr, Al’s spiritual father who led him to the Lord and officiated the wedding of Al and Lynn.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.sunnylanefuneralhome.com for the Beck family.
