Beatrice Gonzales was born June 23, 1933 to Mary and Ignacio Gonzales and was the youngest of four children. She is survived by sisters Anita Gutierrez of Oakland CA & Lupe Gonzales of Moore, OK, and was preceded in death by brother Bill Gonzales of Oklahoma City, OK & a close sister-in-law, Altreen Gonzales.
Bea was baptized in 1944 at Little Flower Church, which she attended. She was a student at Little Flower Church School and graduated from Capitol Hill High School in 1952.
She married Delbert Ferree in 1956. They had two daughters, Debra and Connie.
She attended a vocational electronic school, which helped her get a job at LTV Electronic. There, she worked her way up to a supervisor.
She married Ray Miller in 1965; Ray brought a daughter into the marriage, Angela. They also had two daughters, Renée and Gena. Gena passed away at only 1 month old.
The year 1979 brought the first of the best things of her life--her grandchildren: Corey, Derrick, & Sean Jones, and later, Christian and Mateo Castro. She proudly displayed a sticker on her car that read “Ask Me About My Grandchildren”, and she loved it when people did.
She was on her own by 1993 and worked as a school crossing guard. She retired after a few years.
Since she was Aunt Bea to some, she loved watching “The Andy Griffith Show”. She was actually like Aunt Bea in many ways. She was always cleaning the house, and she always knew if a picture was straight or not. However, she was not known for her cooking skills. Growing up as the baby of the family, she was always told to go outside and play whenever the meals were being prepared. She did have a big heart like Aunt Bea. She once praised her son-in-law for the best burger she ever had, all the while forgetting to put the patty on the burger before eating it. It was the best burger to her because she loved and was grateful for the person who made it, rather than how it tasted.
She was always on the lookout for something that might help her family. Often, she’d come over bearing gently used gifts from the local thrift store that she just knew you needed, or she would call you to let you know some news she just heard that you needed to be aware of. One time, she called her grandkids to let them know about the latest computer virus going around that was so bad because it could come in through an open “window” in your house. She wanted the kids to be sure all the “windows” were closed so their computer didn’t get the virus. Another time, she called her niece to inform her that her name had been selected by a radio station to win a car, and she had just 10 minutes to call them. Well, that niece was soon driving around in a new Mustang.
She always kept us laughing. We remember the time she went to Long John Silver's drive thru and asked for Malt Liquor instead of Malt Vinegar. The worker had to tell her, “Ma'am we don't sell liquor here.”
She was always the “cool” mom. When we would get off of the school bus, you always knew when she was cleaning house because the music would be so loud that she couldn’t hear us ringing the doorbell. We would just sit on the porch until she realized it was time for us to be home and she’d open the door to see where we were. Her favorite music to blast was Tom Jones, Al Green, Neil Diamond, and Nat King Cole in her younger days. When Tom Jones had a weekly TV show, she never missed it. Of course, back then, we only had one TV, but it was one of the few times she told her husband what the family was watching that night. She also kept up with the latest music too, listening to bands such as The Osmonds, Rod Stewart, Alabama, and Loverboy with her daughters and M.C. Hammer, Bobby Brown, and Coolio with her grandkids.
Her supervisor mentality never left her. If you went over to see her, she always had one or two things she needed you to do. She was really thrilled in 2010 when she got a new son-in-law who also had Mr. fix it skills that she could use. She put him right to work whenever he was in town and he was happy to oblige. With that addition to the family, she also gained four grandkids and seven great grandkids. She only met Daniel, who turned out to be her hero at the young age of five when he helped her call for help when the two were home alone together and she fell and could not get up.
She had a special place in her heart for her nephew, Joe Rodriguez, and his wife, Sherril, who both helped take care of her through the years and were by her side until the end, and also for her grandson, Derrick Jones, who kept the lawn and did her honey-do list.
She was preceded in death by her daughters, Gena R House, Diane R. Castro, and Her parents, Mary and Ignacio Gonzales.
She leaves behind three Daughters and son-in-laws: Debra and Frank Velez of Blythe, CA, Connie and Rick Jones of Del City, OK, & Angela and Gary Ray of Rome, GA, six Grandsons and spouses: Corey & Jenny Jones of McKinney, TX, Derrick Jones of Del City, OK, Sean & Gina Jones of Del City, OK, Christain Castro of Hominy, OK, Mateo Castro of McKinney, TX, & Josh & Sheila Ray of Rome, GA, and four great children: Greyson Jones of Del City, OK, Carter & Reagan Jones of McKinney, TX, and Penelope Jones of Del City, OK.
She will be laid to rest at Sunnylane Cemetery.
