Billy Edward Cardwell was born September 26, 1927 in Oklahoma City to Thomas Augustus and Odie Ethel Tunnell Cardwell and passed from this earth February 6, 2022. His education was from Capital Hill High School, where he played varsity basketball in Oklahoma City, Panhandle A&M in Goodwell, Oklahoma and OCU in Oklahoma City. He entered the Navy in mid-1946 for WWII “mop-ups” and then served in the Korean War. Bill’s brother, Dan, introduced him to the new field of refrigerated air in the 1950’s and they worked together at that in California. Later Bill returned to Oklahoma City and started a company called Refrigerator Air with George Osborn. They later merged it with Air Specialist, owned by Jerry Pfannkuche.
When you think of Bill, you automatically think of Norma, the love of his life. They met through friends, Bill and Mary Phillips. One day Bill, with Bill Phillips, stopped by Capital High School where Mary and Norma were playing tennis. Bill was introduced to Norma and the rest is history. Throughout their long marriage of almost 67 years, you would often find Bill doing little things for Norma, like carrying her purse or helping her into the truck with a stepstool. They never like to be separated during those many years and now they are re-united. Bill also had a love for hunting, fishing, golf and OU sports.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings, his wife, Norma Jean, and 2 nieces and 4 nephews. He is survived by his daughters Karen Jean Easley and Toni Lynn Floyd, both of Yukon, grand-children, Michael Easley with wife, Kari of Oklahoma City, Kari Dawn Owens of Yukon, Kristin Becktell with husband Chad, of Yukon, Billy Easley of Yukon and Cody Floyd of Yukon. He also leaves great-grandchildren, Ashtyn Easley, Preston Easley, Nolan Easley, Tyler Owens, Katelyn Owens, Alyssa Easley, Bailey Becktell, and Gavin Becktell. Bill loved all his grandchildren and the great-grands. Each one was special to him. Also surviving him are his sister-in-law Melvena Cardwell of Medford, Oregon and many nieces, nephews and friends.
We are so thankful for God’s love and provision for Bill’s family. Bill was a man of faith who worshipped with the First Baptist Church of Moore, and he loved and provided for his family. He is leaving us with a legacy of God’s love and devotion, which will be an example to all of us.
