He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII as a radarman on the USS Bunker Hill. He received a Purple Heart for wounds he sustained while helping to save lives after his aircraft carrier was hit by two kamikazes.
Bill attended the University of Michigan for two years and was later employed as an Allstate insurance agent for over 30 years.
Bill was married for 46 years to Charlotte Clarkson, who preceded him in death. His parents also preceded him in death as well as his beloved sisters Earlene and Imogene and brothers Forrest and Truman.
He was an avid golfer, fisherman, and church choir member. Bill won numerous golf trophies and made two holes in one. For several years, he held the record for the largest brown trout caught in Missouri.
Bill was a true gentleman and Christian who was always ready to witness to others about how Christ led him throughout his life and offer them encouragement. He was a charter member of Meadowood Baptist Church and counted the members as friends.
Bill and Charlotte enjoyed traveling with family and friends. One of their favorite destinations was Branson, Missouri, to see the Foggy River Boys, who later became good friends. Of course, a trip to the golf course was always on the itinerary.
