

Charles Woody, a man of integrity and honor, lived a life that exemplified his deep commitment to his faith, family and friends was born in Tishomingo, Oklahoma and passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at the age of 94. He graduated from Central High School, married and had a daughter, Sherran. Soon after, he joined the Navy where he served in WWII as a gunner’s mate on the USS Fremont 44 in 1943. Upon returning from service he worked at the Acme Potato Chip Factory with his mother, father and new-found-love, Doris. They married and had two sons Brice and Rex. Doris had two daughters from a prior marriage, Patricia (Tish) and Colleen. Charles dedicated his life to Doris and his children (yours, mine and ours).
Charles worked as an Insurance Agent and later became a State Auditor for Worker’s Compensation where he retired after 23 years of service. Following retirement, Charles cared for his mother (Ruth) and ultimately his wife Doris until their passing. He was a self-less and loyal person. He was extremely proud of his Chickasaw Heritage as his father Guy Woody was an enrollee.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Ruth, wife Doris of 55 years, daughter Colleen, and grandson Jeffrey. He is survived by his children Sherran Bowlby, Tish Barber, Brice Woody, Rex Woody, and 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be Tuesday, January 13 at 2 pm at Sunnylane Funeral Home, 4000 SE 29th, Del City, OK 73115. Internment will follow the service at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, SW 104th & South Walker.
