Donald Clayton Phillips went to be with his Savior in his sleep Saturday morning 10-15-2011 at the age of 76. He was born in Kennett , Missouri to Jessie and Elsie May (Childres) Phillips on January 2, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Nettie, and 3 brothers James, Raymond and Jerry. He is survived by his wife of 24 years Vicki (Thompson) Phillips of the home. Sons Donnie Phillips of Moore, and son and daughter in law Ronnie and Debbie Phillips of OKC. Daughter and son in law Janette and John Leasure of SE OKC. 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great grandchildren. 2 sisters Connie and Faye, and 1 brother Jimmy.
He served in the US Air Force in Wichita , Kansas . Then came to Oklahoma and never looked back. He worked for Dolese Concrete driving a truck for 10 years then came to Del City Police Dept. and retired after 30 year in October 1996. Don has raised a good portion of Del City over the years, many still see him, calling him pops. A name that he valued greatly. He coached little league baseball and basketball. He played softball til he was into his 50’s playing for church leagues and even the Del City Fire Dept. where his son worked. He was also a scout master for his sons as they grew up. He loved to joke with people, Although he was a quiet man, when he spoke you either fell in the floor because he was making you laugh, or he was giving valued advise, He loved living on his and Vicki’s small acreage just south of Del City . He loved working on the yard usually mowing twice a week to keep it looking nice. He loved his dogs, cats and horses. His dachshund Dottie was always on his lap while he watched TV and his cat Squirt always sat either on top of the dog or just beside him. Before retirement from the PD his idea of a vacation was to build something on his land. That was his way of relaxing. All who knew him loved him, even at church he loved them as much as they loved him. He loved his “church ladies” as he called them, all ages he loved to hug and give a kiss to them all. When he was sick and couldn’t attend he would be upset saying his ladies are going to miss him so much. He loved the kids as well. Even some of the men were lucky enough to get his kisses and hugs. When Sunnylane Baptist Church moved into their new building their were recliners in the foyer. Don put his name on the north chair. That way every Sunday morning you would find him in “his recliner” waiting for the service to begin. When members didn’t see him there they knew something was wrong. That recliner will be empty now but we all know Don is sitting in his recliner in haven watching us and worshiping his savior with us. His last 5 years was difficult with health issues but God brought us incredible doctors and church family to pray for him. We are eternally grateful for that. Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at 1:00pm, at Sunnylane Southern Baptist Church with Interment at Arlington Memory Gardens. Arrangements under the direction of Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, Del City, Oklahoma.
