Iris Irene York was born on September 21th, 1920 in Heavner, Oklahoma. She graduated High School in Okemah, Oklahoma. She lived in S.E. Oklahoma City Metro her entire adult life. She worked in the toy department of John A. Brown in Capitol Hill in the 1950’s. She then started working at the Taste Freeze at SW 59th and Pennsylvania Avenue for her sister, Jean Batterton. She worked at Jean’s Drive In at SW 29th and Santa Fe until she retired. She had many talents and could sew anything. Iris made clothes, drapes, and upholstered furniture. She was an excellent cook, housekeeper, loved working in her yard and had many beautiful flowers. She also canned and froze vegetables from her garden.
She was preceded in death by her mother; Dovie Batterton. Father; Roy Batterton. Son; Jimmy York. Her husband of 75 years; Jim York. Three sisters; Wanda Henthorn, Jean Batterton, Nadean Batterton. Brother; Merle Batterton.
She is survived by daughter; Linda York. Grandson; Randy Schmidt. Sister; Juanita Weber. Cousin; Fern McCabe and many nieces and nephews. She was a person of impeccable integrity. Iris was loved by many and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
