Dr. J. C. Gettys

J. C. Gettys, age 85 of Oklahoma City, OK passed away December 21, 2005. Dr. Gettys was born June 15, 1920 in Okemah, OK to Nora Barrett and Luther Gettys. On February 11, 1943, he was married to Sheba Dean in Waco, TX. They were happily married for over 50 years until Sheba preceded him in death in February 2000. His parents, his brother Mills Gettys, and his neice Betty Rose also preceded him in death. He is survived by 1 daughter Ernestine "Chris" LaFrance and husband Gary LaFrance of Oklahoma City, OK, 3 grandchildren, Captain Terry M. LaFrance of Oklahoma City, Lori D. LaFrance, Stacie LaFrance and fiancee Justice Maynard of Orlando, FL. He is also survived by in-laws P.L. and Rheba Martin and their children Steve Martin and his family, and Robert Martin; Barbara Dean and her children, Jimmy, Kelley, Kyle Dean and their families, Aubra Dean Branson and her children William Wayne and Robert Branson and their families; neices Mildred Gettys of Colorado, Pam Pifer of Colorado, Cindy Deriso of Las Vegas, Terry Ashley of Yukon, Nancy Hudnall of California, and Janeen and husband Gary Morse and their family.

Dr. Gettys had a very successful chiropractic clinic in south Oklahoma City for 35 years. In later years, he was joined by Dr. James Rose who continued the practice after Dr. Gettys retired.

He led a very active life and enjoyed water skiing, fishing, and square dancing. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church and was a Mason.

There will be a viewing with the family Monday, December 26 from 6-9 pm.

Services will be Tuesday December 27, 2005 at 2 pm at Sunny Lane Funeral Home with burial at Sunny Lane Cemetery. A reception will follow at the funeral home.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Meadowlakes Estates Nursing Home and Valir Hospice for the excellent care given to our beloved Poppa Doc.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
