

James (Lake) Baxter, 84 of Edmond, passed away December 7, 2010. He was born November 22,1926, in Pharo, OK and later moved to Henryetta until he was seventeen when he joined the United States Navy. He served in World War II and the Korean War. Lake retired from civil service from Tinker Air Force Base working on B-52’s, an occupation he continued for 5 years in Germany, which permitted Wilma and him to travel Europe during the week-ends.
He was one of four children born to the late Homer and Mary Florence and was the beloved husband of Wilma Marie Baxter for over 44 years. Preceded in death by his wife Wilma, one son Alan Spencer and one grandson Brandon Baxter. He is survived by his children: JC and wife Libby Baxter: Kenneth and his wife Robin Baxter: Gary and his wife Julie Spencer: Terry and his wife Kim Spencer: and daughter-in-law Nancy Spencer. Treasured grandchildren include Lathon and his wife Pam; Mason and his wife Lori; Collin and his wife Karen; Terra and her husband Brad; Kiley; Candace and her husband Blaine: Kyle and his wife Jaime: and Heather and her husband Barrett: Four great-grandchildren: Jamie, Marissa, Ethan, and Amery, along with countless other friends and family who were blessed to know him. Lake loved church services, listening and singing to all music, laughing, being with his family, having fun with friends, working hard, gardening, eating cookies and drinking coffee.
Lake touched the lives of many people with his smile and generosity and maintained his sense of humor all the way to the end. He was a faithful follower of Christ and was a long-time member of Memorial Road Church of Christ. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday,December 10th, 2010, at 10 A.M.at Memorial Road Church of Christ, 2221 E. Memorial Road, Edmond, OK 73013. Interment to follow at Sunny Lane Cemetary in Del City. The family requests , in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Memorial Road Mexico Missions, 2221 E. Memorial Road, Edmond, OK 73013.
