James longed for more adventure than the farm could offer so he enlisted for a distinguished 8 years of service in the United States Air Force.
He met and married his first wife, Yoko Kiyohara, while stationed in Japan and was blessed with three children: Philip, Gina, and Paul.
After completing his service in the United States Air Force, he and his family returned to the United States and settled in Del City, OK
where he became a field engineer for IBM for 25 years until he retired. James’ happy life was forever altered by the tragic death of his wife Yoko who
succumbed to cancer in November 1981. He devoted his life to his children until he received a second chance at love and married Mitsuko Berreth
on July 26, 1985. His life and family was further enriched by Mitsuko’s children, Debra and Charles. James will be remembered by his surviving
siblings Ronald Lyons, Barbara Collins, Mary Corsiglia, and Shirley Stapleton. James was preceded in death by his sister Carolyn and his parents
Harvey & Alice Lyons. James was a soft-spoken, gentle man who enjoyed working with his hands and valued taking care of his family over the pursuit of
prestige or material possessions. He cherished each of his many grandchildren and considered them his greatest treasures. Among his many titles,
he valued that of father, step-father, and grandfather the most. His kind and loving influence will be missed by Eric, Jack, Gavin, Parker, Joseph, Jenna,
Joshua, Jamie, and Daniel. Those who knew him will remember a quiet, considerate man who truly listened to you and cared about what you had to say.
He was always ready to share a laugh or secret and even help you shoulder your load. We love you and will miss you Jim.
